The Power of Confession

Saying it out loud.

What gets said out loud loses some of its grip.

The big idea

What you confess can heal. What you hide can fester.

What does “The Power of Confession” walk through?

1

Cover Up vs. Confess

Proverbs 28:13 · KJV

He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

In plain English

Hide your sins and they own you. Bring them into the light and find mercy.

2

Daylight Heals

Things rot in the dark. Sins, fears, struggles — they grow when hidden. Said aloud to the right person, they lose some of their power. Confession isn't about shame. It's about light.

3

Faithful to Forgive

1 John 1:9 · KJV

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins.

In plain English

If we confess what we've done, God is reliable — he forgives.

“The sin you can talk about is the sin that can be healed.”

4

To God and One Person

Confess to God first. Then, if you can, to one trusted person. Not everyone. ONE person. Saying it out loud cuts it down to size faster than thinking it ever will.

Pray

Father, what I'm hiding — I want to bring it to you. Forgive me. Cleanse me. And give me the courage to be honest with one person who'll pray with me.

Write it down

Is there something you've been hiding? What would saying it to God look like? To one safe person?

You finished: The Power of Confession

Confession isn't punishment. It's how you get free. Talk to God. Then to someone trustworthy.

  • Proverbs 28:13
  • 1 John 1:9

Read any of these in full on the complete KJV, or look the wording up independently at Blue Letter Bible.
