The Courage to Be Seen

Vulnerability and faith.

Pretending to be fine is exhausting. There's another way.

The big idea

You can't be loved as a curated version of yourself.

What does “The Courage to Be Seen” walk through?

1

You Have Searched Me

Psalm 139:1 · KJV

O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.

In plain English

Lord, you have searched me. You know me. All of me.

2

Already Seen

God already knows everything you've been hiding. There's nothing to perform. Letting yourself be honest with him is the start of being honest with anyone.

3

Confess to Each Other

James 5:16 · KJV

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.

In plain English

Tell each other the truth about your struggles. Pray for each other. That's how healing happens.

“You're only ever loved as much as you're known.”

4

One Person

You don't have to be seen by everyone. You need to be seen by ONE person — a friend, a spouse, a mentor — who knows the actual you. Find that person. Practice telling the truth there.

Pray

Father, you already see all of me. Help me trust you with what I'm hiding. Help me let one safe person see me too.

Write it down

Who in your life sees the actual you? If no one, what's the smallest first step toward changing that?

You finished: The Courage to Be Seen

Hidden you cannot be loved. Seen you can. The risk is worth it.

Which passages does this journey use?

  • Psalm 139:1
  • James 5:16

Read any of these in full on the complete KJV, or look the wording up independently at Blue Letter Bible.
