At the Cross

Sitting with what Jesus did.

The center of everything.

The big idea

Until the cross stops you, everything else is decoration.

What does “At the Cross” walk through?

1

By His Wounds

Isaiah 53:5 · KJV

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

In plain English

This points to a suffering Savior who bears our wrongdoing. His suffering brings peace and healing for us.

2

What He Took

He took it all — the rejection, the rage, the sin, the shame, the abandonment. Not because he had to. Because he chose to. The cross isn't a metaphor. It's a real moment in history when love won't quit.

3

While We Were Sinners

Romans 5:8 · KJV

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

In plain English

God didn't wait for us to clean up. The cross happened while we were still in our mess.

“The cross is not God being kind. It's God being everything.”

4

Don't Move Past It

We rush past the cross because it's familiar. Don't. Sit with it. The God of the universe died because the only way to save you was to be killed by you. Let that sit.

Pray

Jesus, I will not rush past your cross today. Thank you. The cost was you. The gift is me.

Write it down

What does the cross mean to you, honestly? When did it last move you?

You finished: At the Cross

Don't get over the cross. Live under it.

Which passages does this journey use?

2 passages, drawn from Isaiah 53:5, Romans 5:8. Every verse appears here in the King James text with a plain-English line beside it, so you can read it without a commentary open. Allow about 5 minutes for the whole thing, or 6 short sittings.

  • Isaiah 53:5
  • Romans 5:8

Read any of these in full on the complete KJV, or look the wording up independently at Blue Letter Bible.
