The Weight of Words

Why what you say to yourself matters.

Self-talk is the soundtrack of your life.

The big idea

What you say to yourself becomes what you believe — and what you believe becomes how you live.

What does “The Weight of Words” walk through?

1

As He Thinks

Proverbs 23:7 · KJV

For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.

In plain English

What you think in your heart shapes who you become.

2

Your Loudest Critic

If you talked to your friends the way you talk to yourself, you wouldn't have any friends. The voice in your head needs reformation. It's been listening to lies. Start talking back.

3

Take Thoughts Captive

2 Corinthians 10:5 · KJV

Casting down imaginations... bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

In plain English

Take down the lies. Bring every thought into line with what Christ says is true.

“Talk to yourself more than you listen to yourself.”

4

Replace, Don't Just Resist

Don't just resist the lie ('I'm not enough'). Replace it with truth ('God says I'm his'). Resist + replace is the rhythm. The new voice gets louder over time.

Pray

Father, retrain my inner voice. Pull down what's been lying. Plant your words in me until they become my default.

Write it down

What's the meanest thing you've said to yourself this week? What truth from God replaces it?

You finished: The Weight of Words

The voice in your head matters. Make sure it's saying what God says about you.

Which passages does this journey use?

  • Proverbs 23:7
  • 2 Corinthians 10:5

Read any of these in full on the complete KJV, or look the wording up independently at Blue Letter Bible.
