Second Chances

When God gives you another go.

The God of redo's, restarts, and resurrections.

The big idea

God is in the business of second chances — and third, and fourth.

What does “Second Chances” walk through?

1

The Word Came Again

Jonah 3:1 · KJV

And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying...

In plain English

God spoke to Jonah a second time. After Jonah ran. After the storm. After the fish. The word came again.

2

Jonah Got a Second Call

Jonah blew it spectacularly. Ran from God. Ended up in a fish. And then — and this is the line — 'the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time.' If you've blown it, that's not the end of your story. It might be the start of chapter two.

3

As Far As East from West

Psalm 103:12 · KJV

As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

In plain English

He's removed our wrongs as far as east is from west. Infinite distance. Done.

“God doesn't keep score. He keeps loving.”

4

Get Up

Whatever has you face down — guilt, failure, the thing you can't believe you did — get up. Mercy is here. The word will come again. Walk into chapter two.

Pray

Father, thank you for being the God of second chances. Help me believe it deep enough to walk forward, not just stay sorry.

Write it down

Where do you need a second chance — with God, with yourself, with someone else? Will you take it?

You finished: Second Chances

Get up. The word is coming again. Walk into the next chapter.

Which passages does this journey use?

2 passages, drawn from Jonah 3:1, Psalm 103:12. Every verse appears here in the King James text with a plain-English line beside it, so you can read it without a commentary open. Allow about 5 minutes for the whole thing, or 6 short sittings.

  • Jonah 3:1
  • Psalm 103:12

Read any of these in full on the complete KJV, or look the wording up independently at Blue Letter Bible.
