A Closer Look: Do Not Fear

Sitting with Isaiah 41:10.

Why this verse is the one God says more than any other.

The big idea

“Fear not” appears in the Bible 365 times — one for each day. It’s not a suggestion. It’s a command, anchored in a promise.

What does “A Closer Look: Do Not Fear” walk through?

1

The Most Repeated Command

Some scholars count it. “Fear not” (or “do not be afraid”) shows up roughly 365 times in Scripture — nearly one for every day of the year. God seems to know that fear is a thing we battle daily. So he addresses it daily.

2

The Verse Itself

Isaiah 41:10 · KJV

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

In plain English

God is with you, so you don’t have to be ruled by fear. He promises strength, help, and steady support.

3

The Reason He Gives

Notice God doesn’t say “don’t be afraid because nothing bad will happen.” He says “don’t be afraid because I am with you.” The reason for courage isn’t a guaranteed outcome. It’s a guaranteed presence.

4

“I Am Your God”

God doesn’t just claim to be present — he claims to be yours. There’s ownership in this language. A small flock under his care, not a generic crowd. You are not alone in something massive. You’re held in something personal.

“Courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s fear that has heard a voice it trusts more.”

5

“I Will Strengthen You”

Fear depletes. God replenishes. He doesn’t just witness your weakness — he meets it. The promise here is active: he will strengthen, help, uphold. Three verbs. Three guarantees.

6

The Right Hand

In ancient writing, the right hand was the place of power and protection. “My righteous right hand” is shorthand for the strongest part of God reaching out to you. Not a fingertip. The full grip.

Pray

God, when fear rises, let “I am with you” settle deeper than the fear. Hold me with your right hand.
