Thomas, Who Asked
The doubt that got a personal answer.
On honest questions, and how Jesus handled them.
The big idea
Thomas said he would not believe without evidence, and Jesus showed up with evidence.
Opening scripture
“Then he said to Thomas: put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”
What does “Thomas, Who Asked” walk through?
Put Your Finger Here
John 20:27 · KJV
Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
In plain English
Then he said to Thomas: put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.
No Rebuke First
Jesus does not shame him or wait for better faith. He arrives and offers his hands — the exact thing Thomas said he needed.
Help My Unbelief
Mark 9:24 · KJV
And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
In plain English
At once the boy's father cried out in tears: I believe — help me with my unbelief.
“Thomas is remembered for one bad week. He spent the rest of his life somewhere far from home telling people what he saw.”
Ask For Wisdom
James 1:5 · KJV
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
In plain English
When you don’t know what to do, ask God for wisdom. He gives generously without shaming you.
He Stayed In The Room
The detail people miss: he was with the others again a week later. He doubted out loud, in company, rather than drifting away quietly — and that is where the answer found him.
Pray
Jesus, meet me in the question rather than around it. Amen.
Write it down
What question do you need to ask out loud, in company?
Stay in the room
Doubt spoken among friends is safer than doubt carried alone.
